Born in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington in the mill town's hospital I have spent nearly half of my life
here in the Pacific Northwest. I am currently employed by King County as a transit operator. I have
been driving transit for the last 11 years while pursuing a horticultural understanding of the genus
Hydrangea. My brother and I co-founded and manage a small specialty hydrangea nursery, Country
Gardens. We do this in our leisure with the help and encouragement of our mother.
I graduated from the University of Washington in 1965 with a degree in General Studies and returned in 1990 to pursue a Masters of Science in Urban Horticulture. I completed the course work and research but did not complete finish the thesis. I was asking the question, "How do abiotic stresses such as drought, nutrient (nitrogen) deficiency, flooding and shading effect the accumulation of specific mRNAs in Populus hybrid 11-11 that are in response to an biotic stress - mechanical wounding?"
Pottery, clay, glazes and the magic of fire that causes them to become one have, in the past five years, become another driving force in my life. I take classes at Pottery Northwest, where I threw for three years. Since that time I've been handbuilding and can't get enough of the therapy. I intend to build a wood fired kiln (probably an anagama) on the property in Fall City and will convert the barn into a studio. Anyone want to come start a commune?
I welcome correspondence about Hydrangeas, horticulture, pottery, or just life in the fast lane
if that's appropriate. Please feel free to e-mail me
